Instructor and Teaching Fellow at Harvard University

Terzah Tippin Poe, a US Arctic Inupiaq, is an instructor and teaching fellow at Harvard University in the Sustainability & Environmental Management program and mentor at Harvard Kennedy School’s Arctic Initiative. She has guest lectured at MIT, Bodo University College, Tufts, Boston College, Boston University, Harvard Law School, U of San Deigo, University College London, and other institutions on social & environmental justice, Indigenous rights, marine policy, and collaborative development.

She founded TRIO Global-ICS consultancy to work with institutions, governments, and organizations to mitigate risk, resolve conflicts, and advise on strategies for collaborative development with communities. She advises, writes, and speaks about sustainability issues across the globe addressing Arctic & marine policy, vulnerable community/Indigenous relations, international environmental governance, resource development, climate change, and business resilience.

In her previous leadership positions with Royal Dutch Shell & TransCanada, she designed and led community engagement programs, negotiated agreements, and worked with international organizations including the World Bank, Inuit Circumpolar Council, World Wildlife Fund, First Peoples Worldwide, Living Earth, and The Nature Conservancy to advance sustainable resource development with an emphasis on offshore assets.

Poe, a former Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center, currently serves on the advisory board of the London-based Polar Research and Policy Initiative, on the board of directors of the Henry Clay Center, and has an advisory board position with University of New England. In addition, she is a Fellow at the Northeast Climate Adaptation Center working to develop effective communication of climate science and strategies with various publics. She holds a Master’s in sustainability & environmental management from Harvard, a Bachelor’s in journalism, and post graduate studies in public policy. She is also a doctoral research flagship fellow at UMaine-Orono.
