William Siemann ’64
BELFAST – William Siemann, 71, died at his residence on Aug. 22, 2013, doing what he loved doing the most; sitting on his couch watching the stock market on one TV and a movie on his other TV next to him.
Billy was born on Oct. 30, 1941, to Frederick William Siemann Sr. and Charlotte Louise Smearer Siemann. He lived in Belfast all his life taking care of his father and mother. He graduated from Crosby High School, class of 1960. In 1958, he was the class president and co-captain of the football team.
After school, Billy went on to the Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree on June 13, 1964. He also received his Engineer’s license that same year. He received his First Engineers license in 1969 and became Chief Engineer on Sept. 3, 1976, graduating from the Merchant Marine School of the Seamen’s Church Institute of New York. As a Chief Engineer, Billy worked on many steam ships.
During the next 27 years, Billy sailed with many different shipping companies and traveled the world and actually went around the world several times. With his mother getting older, he decided to retire in 1991. However, he never knew if he would go back to work so he kept his Engineer’s License current and still has it to this day.
Billy was also the owner of B&M Market on Route 3 in Belmont. For many years, Donna O’Brien was his store manager and of course, his mother, helped out in any way she could. Billy sold the store in 2000 to Donna, who is the present owner today. However, he still loved to go out every day to have his coffee and offer “his advice” to anyone that listened.
Over his lifetime, Billy made many, many friends. He had a kind heart and would do anything for anyone. His friends are too numerous to mention but the family would like to take the time to thank his closest friends for being there when he needed you: Gary and Sylvia Woods, Belinda and Zach Woods, Donnie Bouchard, Mike Bowen, Tom Bowen, Mike Chaples, Kevin and Byron Crosby, Kenny Flagg, Bruce and Steve Frohock, Jeff Green, Ted Heroux, Peter Higer, Billy Knight, Mike, Danny and Donna O’Brien, Arlo and Kristen Redman, Jeff Richardson, Emery Shute, Kenny Small, Roy Smith and Paul Vosburgh.
Billy was predeceased by his parents; a brother, George; two nephews, Richard Tash Jr. and Jonathan Camp; a niece, Julie Robertson; and his close friend, Tommy Bailey.
He leaves behind his family, Robert Siemann and his wife, Katherine, of Surprise, Ariz., Frederick W. Siemann Jr., and his wife, Trudee, of Hilo, Hawaii, Frances Tash and her husband, Richard Sr., of Strafford, N.H., Joan Siemann of Auburn, Barbara Robertson and her husband, Daniel, of Belfast, Lillian Stone of Sun City Center, Fla., and Martha Albert and Deborah Pomerleau of Belfast. Billy also is survived by many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
In accordance with Billy’s wishes there will be no funeral services held. In his memory donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
