Vincent P. Hanscom ’70

Vincent Patrick Hanscom, 68, of Swanzey, New Hampshire, died peacefully in the comfort of his own home on January 11, 2017 surrounded by family.

Vince was born on February 20, 1948 in Saco, Maine to Dorothy Christine (Adams) and Milan Leslie Hanscom. He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1970 with a degree in Marine Engineering.

Vince was a Chief Engineer for Texaco on oil tankers for twenty years. He finished his career working for the City of Keene, first as the Water and Wastewater Utilities Maintenance Foreman, then as Airport Operations and Maintenance Foreman. He retired in 2010.

He married the love of his life, Donna Lee Trask in 1998.

Vince was a kind man with remarkable mechanical skills and creative talents. He touched countless people through his extraordinary ability to craft, repair and design projects of all descriptions. Whether building a barn, turning a bearing, doing home renovations, crafting stone walls, doing welding, woodwork, forestry, or math…there was absolutely nothing Vince could not make or fix.  He was a quiet, modest man who left a big impact on many.  He had high standards and challenged everyone to join him in meeting them.

He is survived by his wife Donna and his daughters Jennifer Elliott, her husband Buck and their children, Alekzander and Jason of Rochester, NH, and Alison Caruso,  her husband David and their children Molly and Mackenzie, of Bolton, CT. He also leaves his sister, Rebecca Gagnon, her husband Ronald of Biddeford, ME and their daughter, Laura Warner.  Vince will also be missed by Bayley, his faithful St. Bernard and furry best friend.  All who knew Vince will feel a loss.

The family would like to thank the staff of Kingsbury Cancer Center in Keene for their positive energy and attitude and reminds everyone to go home and hug your loved ones because life can change so quickly.

There will be no services at this time but plans are being made for a celebration of Vince’s life in the spring. Vince’s family respectfully requests no flowers please. Instead, memorial donations can be made in Vince’s name to:
