Robert M. Glander ’75

Robert Mark Glander, captain of merchant vessels and maritime consultant, 27 year resident of Morehead City, North Carolina, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the age of 67.

Robert was a loving husband, devoted father, and avid hunter. He is survived by his wife, Karin Glander, his children, Mark and Erika Glander, daughter-in-law Amanda Glander; brother Clare (Dooley) Glander III and wife Sheila. Robert is also survived by his nephews Andrew and Douglas Ullman Jr.; cousin Frank Glander; nieces Marisa Ullman Kovar and Kristen Ullman; as well as nephews and niece Christopher, George, and Margaret Glander.

Robert was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 29, 1951, and was graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine. He worked for over twenty years as a captain of merchant vessels with American Maritime Officers, District 2 and retired with an unlimited masters license. He spent an additional twenty years with Glander Marine Services as a maritime consultant at the Port of Morehead City.

He was predeceased by his mother Jayne Streisguth, step-father Clare Glander, and father Oscar Bennett.

The family will receive guests at home on Saturday, June 29, from 3-5pm. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havelock, North Carolina located on Highway 70. Reverend James Daub will officiate.
