Robert C. Wallace, 83
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Robert C. Wallace, 83, of E. Admiral Drive, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 13, 2013. He was the son of the late Oscar and Elizabeth Wallace. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Thorne.
Born in South Portland, he graduated from South Portland High School. He then graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy, Castine, in Engineering, serving in the Merchant Marines before joining the U.S. Navy. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a commander. He served aboard the USS Abbot, USS Hermitage, and the USS Fremont. Other assignments included Fleet Training Group-Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Naval Ordnance Systems Support Office-Atlantic, Board of Inspections-Survey, and Headquarters-U.S. Naval Station Panama Canal.
Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen L. Wallace; three children, Richard A. Wallace and wife Teri of Ocala, Fla., Diane W. Bostic of Virginia Beach, Va., and David R. Wallace and wife Colleen of Stanardsville, Va.; and four grandchildren, Scott, Kaitlin, Derek and Cheyenne.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Vicki and Jean of All Heart Hospice, who cared for him so compassionately during his long struggle.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, with Ernest L. Trueblood, officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be offered to the family atwww.hollomon-brown.com.
