Robert C. Knowles ’50

Robert C. Knowles ’50 died May 16, 2015 in Spring Hill, Florida. Upon graduation he sailed with Farrell Lines on the Africa run as Third and Second Assistant Engineer.  He went active duty in the U.S. Navy as Engineering, Division, Supply and Information Officer for COMTRANSPHIBRON 10. The bulk of his career was with Combustion Engineering interspersed with employment at Bethlehem Steel Company, Shipbuilding Division; General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division. He retired in 1988 as Administration /Sales and Marketing Vice President with MOVATS Inc.  (Motor Operated Valve Analysis and Test Systems).

He is survived by his wife Joan and their four sons, Colin, Keith, Kenneth and Erick. He was active when his sons were young coaching baseball and basketball. Bob was active in his Florida Community planning regular Maine lobster bakes and golfing.

One of his yearbook entries said,” In Bob Knowles we have one of the more fun loving lads from the Maine gang of midshipmen. Bob’s ability to make and keep friends will help him in the years to come. He always had a big smile and a good word for everyone. He was a swell buddy and shipmate.”
