Robert B. Jones ’66

Robert “Bruce” Jones, 71, died on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014 in Augusta after a lengthy illness. He was born in Waterville on May 14, 1943 to Doris Willette Jones and Robert Buck Jones who predecease him along with his older brother, Deane Jones of Mt Vernon.

Bruce graduated from MCI in Pittsfield and Maine Maritime Academy in Castine. Some of the many things Bruce did during his life were working as an engineer on tanker ships, owning and operating a successful oil brokerage business in Houston, Texas, and owning and operating a successful construction company in Mt Olive, NC. He was one of the chief contractors for Habitat for Humanity of Mt Olive and oversaw the planning and completion of a number of houses. He was a member of the Waterville Elks Club and Faith Evangelical Free Church of Waterville. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife Erma Jones and children Olivia, Sydney, Joshua and Rebecca of Waterville; sons Brandon and Travis Jones of Houston, Texas; son Joel Jones, wife Becky and granddaughters Ivy and Jada of Coweta, Okla.; son Tom Blake and wife Zully of Chapel Hill, NC; his younger brother Howard R. Jones and wife Linda of Oakland, Maine; brother-in-law Billy Mallory, in-laws Bill and Isabelle Mallory of Mt Olive, NC; niece Carol Jones-Bridges and husband Erik and their son Rhys of Oakland, ME; sister-in-law Patricia Jones of Mt Vernon; nephews Michael Jones of Bowdoinham and Patrick Jones and wife Jacqueline and their daughter Eleanor of Chicago, IL; special cousins Gary Hawkins and wife Terry of Sherborn, Mass., Barbara Hauter of California, John Hauter of New York; and special friends Bill Sullivan and Dan Lessard, both of Oakland, Maine
A memorial visitation will be on Saturday Dec. 27 in the youth building at Faith Evangelical Free Church on 250 Kennedy Memorial Drive, Waterville, from 4pm to 7pm.
Friends are welcome to drop by the home on 30 Burleigh Street in Waterville on Sunday Dec. 20 from 4 pm to 8 pm.
