Richard L. Egli ’52

Richard L. Egli, 84, of Loudon, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at Memorial Hospital, Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Monday, May 2, 2016. Richard was born May 20, 1931 in Connecticut. His family moved to New Jersey, where he met his future wife, Helen. Richard served as an Engineering Officer in the United States Merchant Marines where he obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Marine Engineering from Maine Maritime Academy. He then served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, Atlantic Fleet, during the Korean War. After his years of service, he obtained a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Farleigh Dickinson University (New Jersey). Thereafter, Richard was employed as an Engineer with the United States Department of Energy where he retired on March 31, 1994, with more than 35 years of government service, as the Assistant Manager for Energy, Research and Development. He enjoyed his work and enjoyed his 21 years of retirement. He was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his four sons, Richard Scott and his wife Elaine, Robert Chase and his wife Angela, Roger Dean and his wife Jan, and Russell Lee and his wife Wendy; six grandchildren; sisters, Betty Timlen (New Mexico) and Lenora Egli (New York); and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jean Egli (Shafer) in 2014.
