Paul C. Sackley ’45
Paul Charles Sackley died May 31, 2016 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born August 27, 1925 in Portland Maine to Charles Paul Sackley and Vivian Sackley. Paul graduated from Portland High School, Portland, Maine in 1943 and graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1945. He went to Sea as Third Mate on a cargo ship loaded with war material meant for the invasion of Japan (World War II). He graduted from the University of Maine in 1950 with a BSME. He served as First Lieutenant and Gunnery Officer on USS Diachenko APD 123 in the Korean War. He served as Platoon Officer of Underwater Demolition Team One (now US Team One of Navy Seals), retired from US Navy as Lt. USNR. Paul worked for a variety of corporations, including General Electric (twice) and in 1991, Paul retired from Emerson Electric, where he was a field sales engineer. He met, and later married, Doris Yvonne Froderman of Brazil, Indiana. They married in Paris, Illinois and, after moving several times, they settled in Rockford, Illinois, where they have resided since 1973.
Survived by his wife, Doris, and his children, Charles Wayne (Martha) Sackley, granddaughters, Kelly Christine Sackley, Jennifer Elizabeth Sackley, Alison Michelle Sackley, all of Plano, Texas; daughter, Paula Yvonne (Patrick) Sullivan, granddaughters, Tes Yvonne Sullivan and Bailey Olivia Sullivan of Rockford; daughter, Patricia Stern and grandson, Joshua (Amy) Stern of Chicago and granddaughter, Arianna Stern of Oakland, California; brother, George Sackley of Windham, New Hampshire, sister-in-law, Mary Alice (Joseph) Holechko and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Froderman, of Brazil, Indiana, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Toula Stasinos and brother-in-law, Charles Stasinos of Plymouth, Mass., brother-in-law, Wayne Leon Froderman, brother-in-law, Warren Ray Wells, niece, Sheri Lynn Wells, nephew, Douglas Wayne Froderman, all of Brazil, Indiana.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Christ United Methodist Church, Alpine Center, 1505 North Alpine Road, Rockford. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 South Mulford Road and will continue on Saturday at the church from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
