Mitchell T. Kuflik ’11

Mystic – A Celebration of the Life of Mitchell Thomas Kuflik will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at Mystic River Park on Cottrell St., Mystic. The schooner Argia will join the celebration to honor Mitchell’s service at sea.

Mitchell, fiancé of Brittany Shinn; son of Donna Griffin and Greg Kuflik; brother of Eden Kuflik, perished at sea on Oct. 1, 2015. He was an officer and third assistant engineer on the cargo ship El Faro.

Mitch graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 2011 at the top of his class and from Fitch Senior High School in Groton, in 2007.

He loved to tell tall tales and would find humor in the little things. Mitch was generous, loyal to a fault, kindhearted and the first in line to help anyone in need. He always sought adventure and had no fear, living life to the fullest. He had shipped to five of seven continents. Mitchell was passionate about rock climbing, snowboarding, camping and cooking, often making a family meal for his friends.

Mitch wanted it known that he desired his life be celebrated with many funny stories about him, lively music, bright colors. To honor Mitchell’s dedication to never giving in to hard circumstances, the celebration will be held rain or shine. Parking for the celebration will be available at St. Patrick’s Church on East Main Street in Mystic.
