Michael R. Giroux ’71

Michael Richard Giroux, on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, surrounded by his loving family and friends, gained his wings and entered the Heavenly Kingdom of Our Lord and Savior. A good death is made possible from a life well lived.

Mike is survived by his beloved, one of a kind wife Celeste Polkey Giroux, his beloved daughter Haley Giroux Johnson (Paul), Stacie Giroux of Houston, Texas and his step-daughter Brittany Polkey Harmon (Michael). Pops, as he was known to his grandchildren, always looked forward to spending time with Lilly, Jewel and Carter Johnson and Collin, Cameron, and Olivia Harmon. His fur babies, Clancy and Bella will miss him immensely.

He was a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy and spent his career as a chief engineer, traveling the world on oil tankers to ports such as Valdez Alaska. A native of Sanford, Maine, Mike also was survived by three sisters, Tisha White, Judi Arsenault, and Cathy Dion. He was the son of the late Dot and Willie Giroux who he readily gave credit for instilling his work ethic.

Mike was an extremely youthful 69 years old. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to his neighbors and enjoyed a daily round of golf with his good friend Dan Schultz and spending time with his dear friend Randy Muller. He was the son in law of Rose Polkey, and Louis “Bud” Polkey.
