Kent Chesley Chase ’84

Kent C. Chase 53, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at his home in Kingfield.
He was born July 16, 1961, in Farmington to Lendell and Eunice (Pinkham) Chase. Kent grew up in Kingfield and attended local schools graduating from Mt. Abram High School with the class of 1980. Kent played football at Mt. Abram High School from 1976 to 1977, and for Madison High School from 1978 to 1979. He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Class of 1984, with a BS degree in Marine Transportation. In his freshman year at MMA, he received an award for Regimental Excellence. After graduating from MMA, Kent worked in the shipping industry as a Merchant Marine. He enjoyed traveling to many places including Hawaii, Japan, Russia, Romania, Spain, and the Madeiras Islands. After being out to sea for fifteen years, he worked for Sugarloaf Mountain and, for the last 10 years, he worked for the Maine State Ferry Service on the Rockland to Vinalhaven Ferry. He truly enjoyed his job and spoke very highly of the people he worked with.
Kent was a very gentle soul with a huge heart. He was a family man who would do anything for his family. His pride and joy were his nieces, Kelsey and Sophie. He was their biggest fan and was always available to provide them with help and guidance. His newest joy was his great nephew, Jackson.
He loved the blues, history, astronomy, trivia, comedy, playing the lottery, and a good joke.
Kent was predeceased by his father, Lendell Chase; and grandparents Meredith Chase, Marjorie Roy, Chesley and Ina Pinkham. He is survived by his mother, Eunice (Pinkham) Chase of Kingfield; sister, Karen Chase of Marblehead, Mass.; two nieces, Kelsey Enman of Brunswick, and Sophie Enman of Marblehead, Mass., a great-nephew, Jackson; grandmother, Farrilyn Chase of Kingfield; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
