Joseph W. Carr ’52

CUSHING – Joseph W. Carr, 84, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Windward Gardens in Camden. Joe’s life began at the Stinson Hospital in Bangor on January 27, 1931.

During his sophomore year at Bangor High School, he asked Judy Wooster to the New Year’s Dance and they have ‘gone steady’ ever since. He had three years at the Maine Maritime Academy and after graduation spent two years as an engineer on a Gulf Oil tanker. Next, he served two years in the U.S. Navy as an engineer on a Minesweeper. His career then took him to several different jobs as a manager of engineers and turbines for General Electric Corporation, moving many times to different cities. During that same period, the Carrs had two sons. Always desiring to give back to his community, Joe volunteered in various capacities in all five towns where they lived.

After retiring to Cushing he volunteered with the Rescue Squad and, held six other municipal jobs through the years as well.

Joe will be missed by his brother Ralph and sisters-in-law Nancy Carr and Jane Knight. And every day by his wife Judy, and his sons, Tim and Dan; for they have very special memories.

In lieu of flowers any donations can be made to the Friends of Cushing Rescue C/O Sandra Blanchard, P.O. Box 20, Cushing, ME 04563.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Pleasant View Cemetery, Davis Point Road, Cushing.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
