John R. Romano ’60

It is with sadness that we give notice of the passing of John Ralph Romano. Mr. Romano, passed on Sunday, September 14, 2014, in Arlington, Virginia.
He was 78 years old.

Mr. Romano was born on December 19th, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Joseph Romano and Concetta Mancino. He was the eldest of four children, Anthony Romano, now deceased, Susan Romano, now deceased and Michael Romano.

Mr. Romano graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1960. He worked as a ship engineer for United Fruit Company and was at sea until 1964. Mr. Romano worked for Mobil Oil for 30 years as a mechanical engineer and cooling tower specialist. During his time with the company he lived and worked in Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and England and travelled to more than 60 countries. He was one of the primary engineers who helped design and build what is now known as the Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery Company in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, which became operational in 1984 and is one of the biggest oil refineries in the Middle East.

He retired from Mobil in the year 2000. After retiring he lived in Houston, Texas and later moved to Arlington, Virginia where he lived near his son, daughter-in-law and grandson.

Mr. Romano is survived by his wife, Maria Teresa Gil del Real, daughter, Christina Romano, his son, John-Alex (Caroline) Romano, and grandson, Theodore Romano.
