Irving F. Banks ’67

Irving F. Banks Jr., “Buddy,” 65, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully at Miles Memorial Hospital on April 17 after a brief illness. Born in Jefferson on March 17, 1945, he was the son of Irving Sr. and Cynthia (Jackson) Banks.

Bud grew up in Jefferson and graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1963 and the Maine Maritime Academy in 1967. He was a Merchant Marine for about a year before going to work for Pratt & Whitney. For a little while he worked on a commercial fishing boat and then went to work as an engineer at Maine Yankee until his retirement in 1997.

He enjoyed race cars, antique automobiles, fishing, and watching wildlife. He also loved making daily visits to the garage and to the Superette.

He is survived by his parents, Irving F. Banks Sr. and Cynthia J. Banks of Jefferson; sisters, Dorothy Wing of Voluntown, Conn., Donna Williams of Jefferson, Shirley Barber of Jaffery, N.H., Sheila Clark and husband Tom of Norwich, Conn., Nancy Sharron of Norwich, Conn.; many nieces and nephews; daughter, Paula Miller of Melbourne, Fla., granddaughters, Heather and Niki; daughter, Rebecca Hagar and companion Clay Sigler of Bristol, and grandson, Zachary Hagar; son, Irving Scott Banks and wife Rebecca of Jefferson, and grandsons, William and Wyatt.

Per Bud’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. Celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
