Hugh E. Ellis, Jr. ’57

Hugh Edward Ellis, Jr., husband of the late Patricia Ellis, died at the South Carolina home of his daughter, Kimberly, on July 19, 2018, surrounded by loving family. He was born on July 23, 1936, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Hugh Edward Ellis, Sr., and Susan Rachel Ellis.

He and his wife, Pat, were residents of Ellsworth, Maine, and Weeki Wachee, Florida. They had lived for over 30 years in Brewer, Maine, prior to retirement. He was predeceased by his wonderful wife of 58 years, Patricia Leavitt Ellis, his parents, and three sisters, Frances Jarvis, Estrea Nelson, and Betty Knapp. Surviving are his children, Jeffrey Ellis and his wife, Ginger, of Bloomingdale, Michigan; Katherine Chiu and her husband, Fred, of Tucson, Arizona; and Kimberly Wienholt and her husband, Gregory, of Aiken, South Carolina; plus four grandchildren, Justin Ellis of Rhode Island; Katherine Schmidgall and her husband, David, of Washington, DC; David Ellis of Illinois; and Hope Wienholt of Aiken, South Carolina.

He graduated from Bangor High School in 1954, Maine Maritime Academy in 1957, and the University of Maine at Orono in 1963. He worked for Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, dining out, working on his beloved camp at Little Rocky Pond, Ellsworth, and gathering with friends and family.

Services for Hugh will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, Maine. The family invites family and friends for conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center immediately following the services Tuesday.
