LEWISTON: Harry M. Reid, Jr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday afternoon, February 21, 2014. He was born in Lewiston at Central Maine Medical Center on July 4, 1938 a son of the late Dr. Harry M. Reid, Sr. and Ruth (Boman) Reid. Harry graduated from Gould Academy in 1956 and continued his education at the Maine Maritime Academy, serving as Class Commander of the Grand Class of 1962 receiving a bachelor’s degree in Marine Science. LEWISTON: Harry M. Reid, Jr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday afternoon, February 21, 2014. He was born in Lewiston at Central Maine Medical Center on July 4, 1938 a son of the late Dr. Harry M. Reid, Sr. and Ruth (Boman) Reid. Harry graduated from Gould Academy in 1956 and continued his education at the Maine Maritime Academy, serving as Class Commander of the Grand Class of 1962 receiving a bachelor’s degree in Marine Science. After graduation, he traveled the world as an Engineering Officer with the Merchant Marines from 1963 to 1972. In 1972, Harry went to work for Bath Iron Works and rose to the position of Chief Test Engineer before retiring in 2006. In retirement, Harry’s true joy was spending summers at his home in Vinalhaven, Maine, where he spent his summers for the past 70 years. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 50 years, from when they were married on February 5, 1964 in Lisbon Falls, Barbara (Kelley) Reid of Lisbon Falls, (formerly of Canton, PA), a Daughter Sharon (Reid) Lawrence and her husband Dean, their two daughters Brooke, Pressley and her partner Kathryn Rothe; a Son David Reid and his wife Michelle and their children, Daphne and Max, and a Daughter Karen Reid and her two sons Cole and Hayden Stewart who is currently serving our country in Afghanistan. He also leaves behind a sister, Nancy (Reid) Kailey, brother-in-law Peter Kailey, and a brother, John Reid. In addition to immediate family, he leaves behind his sisters-in-law Janet Cooke, Lorraine (Tom) Rusk, Gail Kelley, and brother-in-law Richard (Judy) Kelley and many nieces and nephews. The Reid family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude for the wonderful care Harry received at the Oncology Department at Central Maine Medical Center, the Nurses of the Kennebec Pharmacy and Home Care Infusion, and the exceptional care he received from the doctors and nurses on the first floor of the Memorial wing at Central Maine Medical Center. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday March 1, 2014 in the Maine Harvest Dining Room at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport, ME from 12-3pm.
