Douglas M. Green ’56

Douglas M. Green, 79, slipped the surly bonds of this world, with his beloved wife Deborah at his side, after an extended illness, Thursday, January 30, 2014.

Born in Camden, April 4, 1934, he was the son of Kenneth M. and Dorothy L. Dolley Green. Educated in local schools, he was a 1953 graduate of Camden High School and a 1956 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy.
For the next four years, Doug went to sea, shipping with American Isbrandtsen Line.
January 30, 1960, he married Deborah Dillingham at what was then known as Dow Air Force Base Chapel in Bangor.

For more than 33 years, Doug enjoyed serving many people as proprietor of Douglas Green Realty, with offices in Camden and Rockland. In 1995 he joined Ann Keefe to form Green/Keefe Real Estate and in 1996 opened a third office in Belfast. They sold that business in 2005.

He was a member, past president and treasurer of the Penobscot Bay Board of Realtors, a member of the Maine Association of Realtors where he served as a District Director in 1974, and the National Association of Realtors. Doug was honored as Realtor of the Year in 1995.

Long active in community and local organizations, for 20 years, Doug was a member of the Camden Lions Club. For more than 10 years, he was an active member of West Bay Rotary Club in Camden, and was honored by that club as a Paul Harris Fellow. From 1972 to 1974 he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Camden YMCA, for three years a member of the Camden Rockport School Board, and for three years was a member of the Budget Committee and Nominating Committee for the Town of Camden.

Besides his wife Deborah of 54 years, Doug is survived by two children, Philip Scott Green and his wife Kathleen of Still River, MA, Pamela Dorothy Copeland and her husband Keith of Knob Noster, MO; four grandchildren, Abigail Westad and her husband Jacob, Jacob Copeland, Kathryn and Emily Green; two great- grandchildren, John and Catherine, as well as several cousins.

A springtime memorial service will be announced by Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
