Capt. Richard P. Dallaire ’51

Captain Richard Paul Dallaire, USN (Ret), 87, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away March 13, 2018.

Born April 12, 1930, in Rochester, New Hampshire, he was the son of Wilfred and Gladys (Marchand) Dallaire. He graduated from Spaulding High School, Class of 1948. He later graduated from Maine Maritime Academy, Class of 1951. After graduation he sailed for Farrell Lines in Europe and West Coast of Africa. He later was commissioned in the U. S. Navy as an Engineering Duty Officer and during his 28 years he served in a number sea billets leading to Chief Engineer of USS America (CV-66). Shore duty involved numerous ship maintenance officer staff tours until his retirement in 1979.

He is survived by a son, CDR Steven Dallaire, USN (Ret) of Leonardtown, MD and a daughter, Mrs. Karen Rogers of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Paula Davis of Rochester, NH. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine (Rocheleau) Dallaire of Dover, NH and a son, David Dallaire.
