Capt. William L. Bullard ’59

William Lloyd Bullard, 80, of Ketchikan and Plympton, Massachusetts, died Dec. 20, 2017, in Plympton after a brief illness. He was born June 14, 1937, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, to William and Janet Lloyd Bullard.

He graduated in 1956 from Hingham High School in Hingham, Massachusetts. He earned a bachelor’s degree in nautical science and a third mate License in 1959 from Maine Maritime Academy.  In 1963, he earned his master license for “vessels of any gross tons upon oceans,” and sailed deep seas for 10 years. He was a first class pilot in the Panama Canal, Hawaii, Southeast Alaska, and St. Croix, U.S Virgin Islands. Bullard was also a Navy veteran, having served 11 years as a reserve officer.

He resided in Coco Solo, Panama, from 1967 to 1970; Honolulu, Hawaii, from 1970 to 1975; and Ketchikan and Plympton from 1976 to 2017.

Bullard family members write that they knew him by his nickname, “Jick.”

Mr. Bullard was preceded in death by his parents, William B. Bullard and Janet Lloyd Bullard of Eastham, Massachusetts; and brother, Edward L. Bullard. He is survived by cousins, including Susan Bullard Carpenter of Hingham, Massachusetts, Deidre Bullard TeStrake of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Hovey Clifford, of Falmouth, Massachusetts.
