Course Duration

This is a 40-hour hybrid course, consisting of:

  • 32 hours of self-paced online coursework

  • Followed by an 8-hour in-person assessment at our Bucksport facility.

Certification will be issued upon successful completion of all components.

Course Description

This course is designed for mariners at the Management Level, including:

  • Engineering officers: Chief Engineer, Second Engineer Officer (III/2, III/3)

STCW Gap-Closing Requirements
Effective March 24, 2014, regulatory changes require additional training and/or assessments for certain Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) endorsements. These “gap-closing” requirements apply to mariners who hold STCW endorsements issued under previous regulations.

Mariners who submit applications without proof of completing gap-closing requirements may have their STCW endorsements limited with the notation:
“Not valid after 31 Dec 2016.”

Please note: Gap-closing requirements do not affect the limitation or retention of national endorsements.

Course Access & Online Learning

Upon registration, students will receive a confirmation email with login details for Canvas, Maine Maritime Academy’s online learning platform.

  • The course is self-paced

  • Modules must be completed sequentially with a quiz after each

  • Allow up to 2 hours for the course to appear on your dashboard after registering

Returning students can log in using their existing Canvas credentials.

Maine Maritime Academy alumni who previously used Canvas as undergraduates will receive a new Canvas account for their CPMD courses.
