Important Information

Your confirmation email will include a handbook with practice exercises. Please complete the exercises and bring them with you to the assessment. They should take about 2 hours to complete.

Course Description

The course is designed for deck license holders who have not served 1 year in sea service within 5 years. Training takes place using the E-Nav Lab simulators.

Students who complete the course will be able to demonstrate proficiency in radar plotting techniques, with an emphasis on:

• Situation awareness

• Collision avoidance

• Application of collision regulations

Students should plan to be on campus for approximately 3 hours to complete the exam and assessments.

USCG Approval

Applicants who successfully complete the Radar Observer Recertification course will satisfy the training requirements of 46 CFR 11.480(f) for maintaining the validity of a Radar Observer endorsement.
