Course Description: This course is designed to develop a fundamental understanding of the shipboard systems associated with the design and safe operations of inert gas and crude oil wash systems aboard tankers.  The objectives will introduce students to the science, design, and safety features of the IGS/COW systems, based on Solas Regulation 62 or FFS chapter 15 guidelines.  The course will explain the discipline, mechanics, operational procedures, and regulations applicable to the various IGS/COW systems, as well as providing an understanding of the locations and functions of those system components. Students will demonstrate their understanding of the systems using the Transas Dangerous Liquid Cargo simulator and the OSG 350 tanker simulator.  At the conclusion of this course students will be able to successfully operate, maintain, and inspect the IGS/COW systems.

 

USCG Approval: Applicants who successfully complete our Inert Gas Systems / Crude Oil Washing course will satisfy the crude oil washing operations training requirement of 33 CFR 157.152(c)(2).
