Course Description

This U.S. Coast Guard-approved course covers adult CPR, basic first aid practices, and AED use.

CPR & First Aid Requirements for USCG Licensing

If you’re applying for your first domestic officer endorsement, the U.S. Coast Guard requires current CPR and First Aid training. This applies to the following license types:

  • OUPV
  • Mate or Master (any tonnage)
  • Chief Mate
  • Licensed Engineer
  • Chief Engineer
  • Designated Duty Engineer (DDE – any horsepower)

What You Need to Submit to USCG

To meet USCG requirements, you must provide:

  • First Aid training completed within 12 months of submitting your license application
  • A valid CPR card or documentation of USCG-approved CPR training

What You’ll Receive

Upon successful completion of this course at Maine Maritime Academy, you will receive:

  • A U.S. Coast Guard–approved course certificate
  • An American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) CPR/First Aid card, valid for two years

USCG Approval

This course satisfies the training requirements for Elementary First Aid under STCW Code A-VI/1-3.
