Course Duration

3 days | Castine campus


Course Description

Take command in critical moments. This course prepares you to launch, operate, and lead fast rescue boat missions in challenging weather and sea conditions. You’ll master engine operations, locate and communicate with ships and helicopters, and execute precise search patterns to maximize rescue success.


Student Information

What to Bring:

  • Layers of clothing (weather can change throughout the day, even in summer)

  • An extra pair of shoes

  • Rain gear

  • Hat

  • Sunscreen

Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs):

  • MMA will provide PFDs to all students.

  • Each student will be issued a PFD at the start of the course and must return it at the end.

  • Students may bring their own PFD if preferred.

USCG Approval

Applicants who complete our Fast Rescue Boat course will satisfy the following:

  • Training requirements of 46 CFR 12.617(a)(3) and STCW Code Section A-VI/2.

  • Competency demonstration requirements of 46 CFR 12.617(a)(4) and STCW Code Table A-VI/2-2 for an STCW endorsement for Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats.

  • Performance of the equivalent of all tasks outlined in NVIC 05-14: “Assessment Guidelines for Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats.”
