Course Description
This course (8 hr.; 1 CEU’s) is the Divers Alert Network (DAN) Diving First Aid for Professional Divers (DFA Pro) that is specifically designed for commercial, professional, aquarium, and scientific divers and it provides knowledge and first aid skills specifically for these work environments. For both dive masters and dive instructors, it provides a review of rescue management skills in order to maintain active certification.

DFA Pro utilizes information from the four core modules of CPR Health Care Provider (HCP), Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving Injuries, Neurological Assessment, and First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries.  This course meets U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and guidelines for CPR and first aid training within the aquatic workplace.

Information covered via online eLearning modules include anatomy, physiology, blood-borne pathogens, decompression illness, oxygen first aid, correct assessment and responses, and emergency medical management.  The specific skill sets developed during the course include:

  • Scene safety assessment
  • Primary and secondary assessments
  • Both one- and two-person CPR for adults, children, and infants.
  • Deployment and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Airway obstruction management
  • Oxygen first aid administration
  • F-A-S-T assessment
  • Wound management (external bleeding control) by bandage and splint application
  • Pressure immobilization techniques
  • Management of severe allergic reactions.

DFA Pro is the most comprehensive first aid course in the dive industry.

Approved by the U.S. Coast Guard to meet the training requirements of 46 CFR 11.302(a)(3), 46 CFR 12.602(a)(3), 46 CFR 11.20(i)(1) and STCW Code Table A-VI/1-3
