Course Description
This course is open to all seafarers who have previously been certified in Basic Safety Training and have one year of sea time in the last five years for the renewal of their Basic Training endorsement.
The course covers the following competencies:

Personal Survival Techniques

Basic Fire Fighting
This course is open to all seafarers who:

Have previously been certified in Basic Training
-
Can meet physical and professional eligibility requirements for STCW certification
-
Hold at least entry-level mariner documentation from the USCG or a foreign flag state that recognizes USCG credentials
This course does not satisfy the requirements for the Advanced Fire Fighting Revalidation.
Important Notes

Students must be clean-shaven to comply with NFPA regulations for SCBA use (mustaches permitted).

It’s recommended to bring an extra set of clothes for after the live burn exercise.

Clean coveralls or a set of clothes for the water (no shoes needed)

Swimsuit, towel, and a plastic bag for wet items

USCG Approval
Applicants who successfully complete this course will satisfy the continuing competency requirements for Personal Survival Techniques and Basic Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting in STCW section A-VI/1, 46 CFR 11.302(d)(1) and (2), and 46 CFR 12.602(d).
