2 hours. This course is being offered by Lisa Burton at MMA’s Bucksport campus.

 

Course Description
This awareness level class introduces the hazards of lithium ion batteries as well as the challenges they bring to firefighters, fire service organizations, and the communities in which they serve.   All firefighters and life safety professionals should anticipate and prepare for this fast trending hazard.

Instructor
Lisa Burton is a longtime advocate for firefighter safety.  She has 13 years of experience in fire service, safety, training and public speaking.  She serves as a Captain with Castine Fire Rescue Department in Castine, Maine and currently serves as the Everyone Goes Home Advocate Region 1 Advocate Manager for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. In that role, Lisa oversees the New England Region volunteer trainers who deliver programs to develop instructors to support NFFF’s Everyone Goes Home programs.

A Credentialed Chief Training Officer, Lisa works as a shipboard fire instructor for Maine Maritime Academy, Hancock County Fire Academy instructor and a state fire instructor with Maine Fire Service Institute. Lisa has presented a FDIC/Women In Fire Leadership Conference and Women In Fire International as well as regional and state level events.

Lisa holds a Master of Science degree in Emergency Management with a concentration in Management of Fire and Emergency Services from Eastern Kentucky University and presently works for the University of Maine System as the Interim Director and Emergency Coordinator for the Department of Safety Management.
