Course Description
This is a Chief Mate-Master course developed to provide the student with an in-depth understanding of watchkeeping arrangements and procedures, related international regulations, collisions avoidance, traffic separation schemes, and bridge resource management, and communication skills for deck officers at the management level. The course will provide instruction in areas relevant to Bridge Resource Management and Watchkeeping at the management level, in so doing, participants should able to undertake senior watchkeeping duties in a manner that ensures the safe passage of their ships, passengers, crew, and cargo. The course satisfies international regulations as stated in the Manila Amendments to the STCW Code specifically for competence in knowledge of the following:
Function: Navigation at the management level
Competence: Establish watchkeeping arrangements and procedures
Knowledge, understanding, and proficiency:
- Understanding international regulations for preventing collisions at sea
- Applying relevant Standards for Training and Certification of Watchstanders
- Understanding procedures and principles observed in keeping a navigational watch
- Using VDR. LRIT, BNWAS, AIS, ECDIS and related bridge equipment
- Utilizing various strategies and skills with Interpersonal Communication
Competence: Maintain safe navigation through the use of information from navigation equipment and systems to assist command decision making
Knowledge, understanding, and proficiency
- Appreciation of system errors as well as thorough understanding of the operational aspects of navigational systems
- Blind pilotage planning
- Evaluation of navigational information derived from all sources, including radar and ARPA, in order to make/implement command decisions for collision avoidance and for the directing of the safe navigation of the vessel
- Interrelationship and optimum use of all navigational data available for conducting navigation
USCG Approval
Those who successfully complete our Advanced Watchkeeping (MEMACE-27) course will satisfy the training requirements of 46 CFR 11.305(a)(2) 11.307(a)(2), 11.311(a)(2), and 11.313(a)(2); AND the Advanced Watchkeeping and Advanced COLREGS training requirements of STCW Code Section A-II/2 and Table A-II/2, as amended 2010, for certification as Master or Chief Mate on vessels of 500 GT or more; And the Advanced Watchkeeping standards of competence required by STCW Code Section A-II/2 and Table A-II/2, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVICs 10-14(Ch-2), 11-14(Ch-2), and 03-18 Tasks 5.1, 5.2.A, and 5.3.A.
