Course Description

This OUPV course prepares mariners to pursue licensing as an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV), commonly known as a “Six-Pack” license.

An OUPV license allows captains to operate vessels under 100 GRT and carry up to six paying passengers up to 100 miles offshore. This credential can lead to opportunities working as a charter captain for fishing or sailing excursions, ferry operator, dive boat captain, or on other small commercial vessels.

To qualify for an OUPV license, applicants must document a minimum of 360 days of sea service, including at least 90 days within the past three years. Additional U.S. Coast Guard requirements include proof of age and U.S. citizenship, qualifying sea service documentation, and meeting applicable medical and physical standards.

Final license endorsements may vary based on your boating experience and intended area of operation.
