Course Description

This course is designed for individuals who have not previously completed Personal Survival Techniques. It includes both classroom instruction and pool-based training, covering key topics such as:

• Emergencies

• Evacuation procedures

• Survival craft

• Personal life-saving equipment

• Survival strategies at sea

Participants will complete a written exam on the theoretical components, while the practical assessment will be conducted by the instructor in the Academy’s indoor pool.

What to Bring:

• Clean coveralls or a set of clothes for the water (no shoes required)

• Swimsuit

• Towel

• Plastic bag for wet items

Location

The class will be held at the Smith Alexander Physical Education Building, specifically in the Ed Biggie Classroom and Bok Pool, located at Maine Maritime Academy, 1 Pleasant St, Castine, ME 04420.

USCG Approval

This course is not U.S. Coast Guard approved but it meets the guidelines for the course.
