Congratulations, Class of 2021!
We hope you feel great pride in having reached this important milestone. You have accomplished the many goals you set when starting your education at Maine Maritime Academy and gained invaluable professional training experiences and formed lifelong relationships along the way.
This year’s celebration activities will look different than they have in the past, but we look forward to marking the occasion with you in unique and memorable ways.
Senior Class Celebrations
We are planning safe and socially distanced in-person celebrations for our graduates later this spring. The students, faculty, and staff who make up our planning committee are keeping a close eye on safety protocols, cruise schedules, and MMA’s academic calendar as we continue to develop and refine these plans.
Dates have not yet been set for these events, but we will communicate additional details and information to the Class of 2021 via email as soon as we are able.
Virtual Commencement Ceremony | May 29, 2021
This year’s Commencement Ceremony will be held virtually on May 29. We hope that you will join us, along with your friends and your family, as we celebrate your class and your accomplishments.
Commencement marks the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. To honor the occasion, your classmates and faculty will be joined by MMA alumni to offer their congratulations and share special messages. We will also bring together the traditional elements of pomp and circumstance to create a ceremony that you and your loved ones can enjoy, now and forever.
Details and information about the Virtual Commencement Ceremony will be posted to this page and shared via email and social media as the event nears.
We look forward to celebrating with you!
Yes, these events are for graduating seniors only. They are designed to give the Class of 2021 a moment of celebratory togetherness before they leave Castine. While we recognize the desire to gather friends and family to mark this important time, we must observe health and safety protocols to limit attendance and prioritize the experience of those to whom it matters most: our seniors.
All Senior Class Celebrations will be documented, and we will share photos and videos from the event on our website social media and social media channels.
While we hoped to be celebrating the Class of 2021 with you at an in-person ceremony, we are faced with several limiting factors.
First, due to the nature of this semester’s academic calendar, most MMA students will be participating in co-ops, cruises, and internships by late spring. Unfortunately, this means that convening in Castine for a traditional ceremony would be impossible for many.
Similarly, while we hope that the situation in Maine, as it relates to COVID-19 health and safety precautions, will have changed by the end of May, we cannot plan a meaningful celebration for our students on those assumptions.
Instead, we are working with student representatives to design and deliver a unique and memorable Commencement ceremony. We hope that you will join us virtually to mark this special occasion!
While we wish that we could welcome friends and families to campus to celebrate, we are not able to guarantee that we will be able to do so this spring; this is due to current gathering limits in Maine and the critical need for MMA to launch a safe summer cruise for current seniors and sophomores.
Our planning committee will continue to explore options for graduation related visits in the coming months and we will share all news and information regarding this matter here on our website and on our social media channels as it becomes available.
Note: In order to maintain the health and safety of our community, our campus is closed to most visitors at this time.
