Class Notes are #1 on Mariner Survey

Thanks to everyone who responded to the survey on how we may be able to improve your Mariner. We greatly appreciate your input and suggestions on how we can produce a publication you find informative and keeps you in touch with classmates, other alumni and the academy.

Ninety percent of respondents are very interested in the Class Notes section of the Mariner.  Some comments were …” Class Notes are the first pages I turn to when I get my Mariner“, … “I’m disappointed when my class year is not mentioned”, … “expand the class notes!”

The other top  items readers want to see in the Mariner are:

  • Alumni Professional Profiles
  • 8 Bells
  • Stories of Institutional History
  • Alumni Chapter News
  • Campus Facilities / Program Update
  • Student Achievement  Student Academic Experiences

The Mariner editorial staff will be happy to expand the Class Notes section, but we need to hear from you!

Alumni Directory Update

PCI, the company collecting and updating contact information for the 75th Anniversary Alumni Directory, has closed its data collection for the new directory. Feel free to contact us with your address change and we will forward it to PCI for inclusion.

Dedication of this eighth edition of the directory will be to all MMA alumni who have perished at sea.

The original vendor, Harris, was sold during the initial phase of the project. Unfortunately, this has forced a later delivery of our publication. The final print of the book will be available July/August 2017.

For more information, visit the Alumni Directory FAQ page or feel free to contact the Alumni Relations Office.

From the Alumni Association: Class Agents

Shawn Longfellow, ’86

As chair of the MMA Alumni Association Alumni Involvement Committee, I want to introduce you to a new concept that we hope will generate interest, create a spirit of participation and, above all, increase contact with our alumni.

The Alumni Association, in cooperation with the Office of Alumni Relations, is creating a Class Agent program to expand alumni involvement and empower its volunteers to:

  • Improve communication among alumni.
  • Obtain more accurate alumni contact information, with emphasis on reconnecting with lost alumni.
  • Build synergy between alumni and MMA, in support of the missions of the Alumni Association and the Academy.

The personal touch you provide – the memories of shared MMA experiences – lend greater meaning and purpose to our efforts. This is our call for support.

Specialty Plate Survey Results

An astounding 98% of the alumni who responded to the MMA License Plate survey, and who have vehicles registered in Maine, are interested in getting an MMA specialty license plate.  Getting a specialty plate requires alot of footwork, time and patience.

Though we had 98% in favor of MMA plates, only 173 responded to the survey, 85% of the respondents were from Maine. So, initial concerns are gathering the required number of signatures and subsequent specialty plate funds. This will be a discussion item among the Alumni Association Board. We’ll keep you posted. This document from the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles explains the steps needed to be completed prior to a specialty plate being issued.

Want a Yearbook?

MMA maintains an archive of original Trick’s End yearbooks in addition to hosting digital versions. Currently we have a surplus of yearbooks in storage that are free for the taking.

If you didn’t receive one or you want to replace a lost yearbook, contact us at alumni@mma.edu. We will get one to you at no cost. Please understand that certain years may not be available. Upon request, we will check to see if we have your year still in stock and get back to you.
