Mark Allen ’71

Mark Allen, 59, husband of Kathleen (Davis) Allen, died April 11, 2008, at a Florida hospital. He was born Aug. 17, 1948, in Dover-Foxcroft, and was raised by his grandparents, Howard and Anna (Platt) Allen.

Mark graduated from Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1966 and Maine Maritime Academy, Class of 1971, with a degree in marine engineering. Mark served with the U.S. Naval Reserves, receiving an honorable discharge as a full lieutenant in 1992. He was, at the time of his death, employed by Nalco Chemical Co., as a senior sales representative.

While Mark was highly successful in his career, he was also very active in many civic endeavors. He was a past member of Dover-Foxcroft Financial Advisory Board and had served as a Dover-Foxcroft fire warden. He was a past trustee of Foxcroft Academy Babson Scholarship Fund, past member of Piscataquis County Extension Board, past member of Foxcroft Academy Home Economics Advisory Committee. As a member of Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, he had served as past treasurer and past member of the church council. He was a former director of Dover-Foxcroft Housing Development, a past member and treasurer of Thompson Free Library Association, a past director and treasurer of Piscataquis Development Association, a former Dover-Foxcroft selectman, assessor and overseer of the poor and a past director of Pine Crest Development Corp. of Dover-Foxcroft. He had also served as a member of selective service board for Piscataquis County.

Mark was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Abbot; his two daughters, Angel Nadeau and her husband, Steven, of Bangor and April Ditzel and her husband, Michael, of Bangor; two grandchildren, Autumn Zoe Ditzel and Alexa Nadeau; his father-in-law, Donald E. Davis of Guilford; two brothers-in-laws, Raymond “Jeff” Davis and his wife, Elizabeth, of Bucksport and Charles “Chuck” Davis and his fiance, Janet Bridge, of Guilford; a sister-in-law, Donna Chiurazzi and her husband, Jack, of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and a special niece and two nephews. He will be remembered by many special friends, including Norman and Helen Higgins of Dover-Foxcroft.
