Jeffrey A. Murdy ’77

Jeffrey Murdy of Brewer, Maine, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2022, surrounded by his close family and fiancé. He was born in Newburyport, MA, on September 10, 1954, to the late Dr. Francis A. Murdy and Marjorie Jean Batemen Murdy.
Jeff was a 1973 graduate of Triton Regional High School, where he was a member of the football and hockey teams. Jeff graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1977 with a BS in nautical science, and held a master’s degree in business science from Husson University. After his education, Jeff found himself shipping throughout the world with Sun Oil Company as Chief Mate. He progressed through his career in sales in the oil industry, making many friends out of the clients he encountered along the way.
His greatest passion was being on the water. Next to Boothbay, Maine, the place where he was most happy was on the Parker River in Newbury, Massachusetts. He and his fiancée spent countless summer weekends boating down the river and meeting up with life-long friends at Sandy Point. He was an avid fan of all sports, particularly the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and the Bruins. Jeff was a voracious reader, an avid golfer and an enthusiastic fan of UMaine Football. Besides being a wonderful family man, Jeff developed wonderful friendships over his lifetime which was the true measure of a life well lived.
Jeff is survived by his mother, Marjorie Jean Murdy Reardon of Newburyport; and his loving fiancée, Elaine Commeau of Brewer, ME; his beloved daughters, Rebecca Murdy and her fiancé, Makoa Kaleo, of Boston, MA, Carlene Swetz and husband, Scott; Jeff’s newest addition, his grandson, Nicolas, of Norwell, MA; his brother, Tom Murdy; and sister, Judy Murdy of Newburyport; his cousin, Pam Burke and her partner, Allan Miller, of Boothbay Harbor, ME; and his many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind daughter, Jasmine MacDonald and family. Jeff was loved by many others, including Elaine’s daughters, Erica Cole and fiancé, Rob Picerno, of Boston, MA, Angela Commeau and fiancé, Rickey DeLoge, and their children Drezden and Nastassja of Bath, ME; and countless other family members and friends who will miss him dearly, most importantly his childhood best friend, Timmy Fowler.
A memorial service will be held at Immaculate Conception in Newburyport, MA, on Friday, January 21, at 10:30 a.m. with a celebration of life to follow.
