Jay S. Ridlon ’77

Jay S. Ridlon, 58, a resident of Wilson Pond Road, North Monmouth, died April 11, 2013, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after an 18-month illness. He was born on Jan. 14, 1955, in Groton, Conn., the son of Sterling. W. and Grace E. Burnham Ridlon.

Jay graduated with high honors from Monmouth Academy in 1973. He also was a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy in Castine in 1977.

Jay worked in shipping at the Norfork, Va., Shipyard; he was a mechanical engineer, traveling to many foreign countries, including the USSR. He was aboard the Maritime training ship on its bicentennial entrance to New York Harbor in 1976.

He is survived by his mother, Grace E. Ridlon, of North Monmouth; his brother, Scott Ridlon, of Middleton, N.H.; two nephews, Seth A. Ridlon and Ian S. Ridlon, both of New Durham, N.H.; three uncles, Richard Burnham, of North Monmouth, Ralph and Connie Burnham, of North Monmouth, and Eugene Burnham, of Reno, Nev.; and an aunt, Vivian Small, of Eliot. He was predeceased by his father, Sterling W. Ridlon, in February 2013.
