E. Michael Rose, Jr. ’65

Ernest “Mike” Rose Jr., 76, of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Gloucester Healthcare. Born in Gloucester on September 5, 1943, to the late Ernest and Bertha (Russell) Rose.

Mike grew up in Rockport, attended local schools, graduated from Rockport High School, class of 1961. He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1965.

Mike served in the Merchant Marines during the Vietnam War. Mike started his maritime career working for different shipping companies. He traveled all over the world aboard the Exmouth and other freighters. He also worked for a cruise ship line before deciding to stay on land after his sons were born. Mike started his own Real Estate business in Gloucester, Rose Real Estate.

He loved to play golf, especially with his dad and brother, Jesse. He had many friends that continued their friendship as his health declined.

Mike was a gentle man, he loved the Red Sox and Patriots. Playing cribbage was a favorite pastime, as well as doing crossword puzzles and reading the paper.

Mike is survived by his sister, Linda Parsons and husband Darrell of Groveland; his sons, Christian and wife Melissa of Gloucester, Tim and his wife Amy of Rockport. He leaves four grandchildren; three nephews and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother, Jesse Rose of Rockport.
