David H. O’Donnell passed unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, at the age of 80.

David was born March 16, 1941, in Fort Fairfield to Patrick C. O’Donnell and Marie (Chamberlain) O’Donnell, who predeceased him. David was also predeceased by his wife, Lorraine “Rainey” (Small) O’Donnell, brothers Albert and Richard O’Donnell, sisters Diane M. O’Donnell and Carol (O’Donnell) Bryza.

David was a 1959 graduate of Searsport High School and a 1962 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy. He traveled the oceans of the world as a marine engineer, and later was an engineer on cargo ships on the Great Lakes. He also was a pipe fitter and worked “the docks.” In David’s older years, he enjoyed the simple things in life, especially his family, Goodwill, Liberty Tool and ice cream cones from DQ.

David is survived by his daughters and their partners, Chrissy and Mark Hassapelis of Stockton Springs, Lorri O’Donnell and A.J. Ellis, Diane and Adam Reynolds, all of Searsport; grandchildren Kelly Hassapelis, Holly Haskell; Buddy, Gage, Cole, Ashton and Elbie Ellis; and Troy, Shane, Cody and Jesse Reynolds; great-grandchildren Lainey and Madison Ellis, and Lucy Reynolds.

David always said you could count true friends on one hand, but we think he had more than that! His quick wit and charm kept everyone on their toes. He will be greatly missed by his friends and his family.

Services will be held at St Francis Catholic Church, 81 Court St., Belfast, Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at 11 a.m.
