Fun Fact: Doug Gilbert was my roommate from the 1st day of indoctrination to graduation day, including the freshman and senior cruises.  When Doug and I first met, he saw my name tag was E. F. Gagnon and asked if my name was Ernie.  I told him my name was Ed and he said he liked Ernie better.  Pretty soon everyone called me Ernie, including the Admiral, with most not knowing that my name is Ed.  To this day, my classmates still call me Ernie.

Fun Fact: Senior year, Commandant Brennan wrote me up for a major for failing to attend colors the entire first semester. ADM Rogers was lenient at Admirals Mast, considering my lack of serious previous infractions. Brennan kept after me until graduation. Five years later, my wife and I found ourselves utilizing Mr. Brennan’s services as a realtor in the Portland area.

Fun Fact: In the fall of 1983, a restaurant in Bangor advertised “all you could eat” steamers and steamed lobsters for $12.99. A group of 10 midshipmen from the football team, of which I was one, went to dinner one evening at said (former)establishment and combined to consume 133 steamed lobsters, 12 pounds of steamers, and 32 pitchers of ice water. True story. Named Outstanding Alumnus 2015.

Fun Fact: First Master’s job Point Shipping (AMO) Nov ’79, age 30; ’85-86 Delivery Master, T-5 Project (Five $85M clean product vessels designed to work with the US Navy Fleet). Upon completion, I was the youngest Master to deliver an entire class of vessel (three or greater) since WW I (research per USN).
