Sam Teel ’77
Board Member
Grad Year: 1977
Major: Nautical Science, but now known as Marine Transportation
Hometown at Enrollment: Jefferson, Maine
Current Residence: Glenburn, Maine
Work: A bunch of boats and ships. Pre cadet years as a deck hand on the “Laura B” to Monhegan Island. After graduation I started in the Gulf with Seal-Fleet supply boats, then to American Export Lines, Farell Lines, and MMP. Capt. Bob Riddle at Sealand Inc. (an MMA alumni) hired me to Sealand’s select list as relieving Chief Mate across the fleet. Simultaneously MMA offered me a job teaching in the Deck Department. At the time I thought it would be a good gig for a few years. Retired from MMA after 42 years teaching on Dec 31, 2024. It was truly the best job and the best people a person could ever hope for.
Family: Kathi Pederson and I dated while in Castine. Her father was the town manager. There were times when Captain Brennan may have let me slide due to her dad’s position in local politics.
MMA Involvement as a Student: Student government, band, backshore club, striker, lifeboat coxswain, but a trooper at heart.
Fun Fact: Enjoying life, kids and grandkids, extended family, community involvement, and a connection to our church. Learning to wake-surf. Returned to alpine skiing after 30 + years away from the slopes.
