Richard B. Munsey ’57

Richard “Dick” B. Munsey, Sr., passed away on February 7, 2026. He was born on April 19, 1936, in Brunswick, Maine, to Maynard and Estell Munsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his five siblings; and his beloved wife of 63 years, Martha Chapman Munsey. He is survived by his son, Richard Bernard Munsey, Jr., of Prentiss, and his daughter, Dianne Munsey Nettles (Dexter), of Carthage.

Dick graduated from Brunswick High School in 1954 and later from Maine Maritime Academy in 1957. Dick and Martha were married in June of 1961, and together they had two children. Throughout their life together, they lived in Jackson, Birmingham, Richmond, Nashville, and Brandon (Reservoir), relocating often due to Dick’s career.

Dick worked for Travelers Insurance for over 25 years as an engineer, which is why the family moved frequently. Despite the many relocations, Dick always made sure wherever they lived truly felt like home.

Dick and Martha loved to travel and go camping, especially returning to Maine to enjoy their famous lobster rolls. They went on several cruises, and Dick especially loved his Airstream and camping at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores. His yard was always immaculate, earning Yard of the Month several times in Millcreek. He could fix almost anything and loved dogs, especially his last dog, Cookie. His favorite trip each year was traveling back to Maine to visit friends and classmates from Maine Maritime Academy.

Our dad will be greatly missed.
