Taylor Martin Hired to Coach Sailing at Maine Maritime Academy

CASTINE, Maine— Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) Marine Operations Manager, Dana Willis, has announced that Taylor Martin has been hired as Sailing Coach and Sail Program Coordinator.

Taylor came to MMA from Pewaukee Lake Sailing School in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, where he ran sailing programs for children ages 5-14, an X-Boat racing program, 420 sailing, and adult sailing. He also coached and managed the city’s high school sailing program.

Taylor’s prior experience includes directing the adult sailing program at New England Science & Sailing (NESS) in Stonington, Connecticut from 2015 to 2017, where he ran a variety of learn-to-sail classes, advanced racing, and cruising clinics; Waterfront Programs Manager for Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut; Mudratz Youth Sailing Team Race Coach in Noank, Connecticut; and Youth Sailing Instructor-Race Coach for the Bellingham (Washington) Yacht Club in 2013 and 2014. During his college career, he was both captain and commodore of the Western Washington University Sailing Team.

“Our students will benefit greatly from Taylor’s experience with sailing instruction for all ages, collegiate sailing, water safety, and watercraft maintenance,” said Willis.

Taylor earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education – Literature, Secondary Education from Western Washington University. He is a US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Trainer, a US Sailing Level Three Coach, and US Sailing Basic Keelboat Instructor.

“I’m very excited to be working with students who are so motivated to be out on the water,” Taylor said.
