CASTINE, Maine—Dr. William J. Brennan, President of Maine Maritime Academy (MMA), recently announced that the college concluded a national search by hiring Richard Rosen of Bucksport, Maine to the position of Vice President for Financial and Institutional Services.
Rosen brings over 30 years of experience to the position, with a background that incudes small business ownership and a long history of service to the State of Maine. Most recently, Rosen was commissioner of the Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) with responsibility for the state budget, 1,200 employees, IT, procurement, and facilities, a role he assumed after spending two decades in the legislative and executive branches of state government. During that time, he also owned and operated a successful business in his hometown of Bucksport.
“Richard brings a wealth of experience to the academy. His sensible approach and his familiarity with the workings of our community – on both local and statewide levels – give him a unique perspective and both our institution and our students have already greatly benefited from his direction,” noted President Brennan.
“The Maine Maritime Academy story is one of an institution that can open an entire world of opportunity to its graduates. It gives an immense amount of satisfaction to continue my career working on behalf of an institution that has such a profound impact on Maine and the region that I call home,” said Rosen.
A graduate of the University of Maine in business and finance, Rosen currently serves as a board member of the Retail Association of Maine, a trustee for Northern Light Acadia Hospital, and a Commissioner on the Maine Indian Tribal State Commission (MITSC).
As Vice President for Financial and Institutional Services, Rosen oversees the financial operations, facilities, human resources, and auxiliary operations for Maine Maritime Academy.
