Maine Maritime Academy Convocation to be Held Monday, September 1, 2014

Posted on: August 19, 2014

Castine, Maine – Dr. William J. Brennan, President of Maine Maritime Academy (MMA), today announced that the college will host its 5th annual Convocation on Monday, September 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Alexander Field House. Members of the Castine community are invited and encouraged to attend.

“At Convocation, we focus on the role of community in fostering learning,” said Dr. Brennan. “We ask our faculty, staff, and friends to affirm their support of our students. We also invite the community to join this gathering as a reminder that they truly make an impact on our students.”

Recognizing the roles that faculty and staff play in creating a sound educational environment, the college has invited all members of the MMA campus community to participate in a unified procession. Campus and community leaders, including MMA Board of Trustees Chair, Capt. Robert J. Peacock II; Castine Board of Selectmen Chair, David Unger; and Alumni Association President, Jim Proulx, will speak at the ceremony and offer their welcome.

The Convocation ceremony was introduced in 2010, establishing a new tradition to welcome all incoming students, as well as second-, third-, and fourth-year students, in a formal ceremony that marks the beginning of the college experience with the same enthusiasm and celebration as commencement exercises.

Maine Maritime Academy is a co-educational, public college on the coast of Maine offering 18 degree programs in engineering, management, science and transportation.
