CASTINE, Maine— Dr. William J. Brennan, President of Maine Maritime Academy, today announced that the college will host its 8th annual Convocation on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Alexander Field House. Members of the Castine community are invited and encouraged to attend.
“Convocation is an invitation to the whole community to welcome our new students,” said Dr. Brennan. “Faculty, staff, and friends affirm their support, and we invite members of the Castine community to join the gathering as a reminder that they truly make an impact on our students.”
All members of the MMA staff and faculty participate in a unified procession. Campus and community leaders, including members of the MMA Board of Trustees and Castine Board of Selectman Chairman, David Unger, will speak at the ceremony and offer their welcome.
The Convocation ceremony was introduced in 2010, establishing a new tradition to welcome all incoming students, as well as second-, third-, and fourth-year students, in a formal ceremony that marks the beginning of the college experience with the same enthusiasm and celebration as commencement exercises.
