Elizabeth McMullan

Elizabeth McMullan brings experience in finance, public service, maritime operations, and nonprofit governance. A Maine Maritime Academy alumna, she earned an Associate of Science degree in Small Vessel Operations in 2009, along with a 200-ton U.S. Coast Guard license. She also holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Economics from Simmons College.

McMullan served as a commissioner of the Maine Public Utilities Commission from 1989 to 1995, following her tenure as director of its Finance Division. Her career also includes financial planning positions with American Broadcasting Companies and New England Investment Group, as well as economic forecasting work at Arthur D. Little. During her four decades of service with Burnham Holdings, she oversaw the investment management of the company’s employee retirement plans, chaired the Employee Benefit Committee, and served on the Human Resources and Nominating and Governance Committees.

Her maritime experience includes serving as a deck cadet aboard The Cat, interning aboard the ferry Captain Henry Lee, and working as captain and crew for Bar Harbor Whale Watch. She has also worked as a private boat captain and continues to serve as a guide in Acadia National Park and on Mount Desert Island.

McMullan’s community service includes trustee roles with the Episcopal Diocese of Maine and the Wendell Gilley Museum, as well as service on the advisory board for the University of Maine’s School of Policy and International Affairs. A former president of the Seal Cove Auto Museum board, she has supported numerous municipal, educational, and community organizations. Her longstanding commitment is to improving the health, education, and economic welfare of the people of Maine.
