CASTINE, Maine—Beginning June 22, 2015, Maine Maritime Academy will offer a professional course in Environmental Regulations & Ethical Industrial Compliance (EREIC), a self-paced, online course awarding four Continuing Education Units and a certificate of completion. The course is designed to educate mariners serving on United States-registered vessels and those who work with them about environmental regulations governing their industry.

Student Contributes Lead Gift of $500,000 to Schooner Bowdoin Fundraising Campaign from Family Foundation

CASTINE, Maine—Dr. William J. Brennan, president of Maine Maritime Academy, announced today that the Bowdoin Centennial Campaign—a $1.6-million-dollar fundraising campaign launched by the Academy in November of 2014—received a lead gift of $500,000 from the Herman D. Pollock Family Foundation. The gift was initiated by Jeffrey Pollock of Houston, Texas, a master’s degree candidate in the Global Logistics and Maritime Management program.Read More…

The workshop, offered free of charge and open to the public, will be presented at the Hilton Garden Inn, 250 Haskell Road in Bangor, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Registration will open at 5:30 p.m.

CASTINE, Maine—The 2015 Commencement will be held at Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday, May 2 at 11 a.m. at the Alexander Field House. Christopher J. Wiernicki, an internationally recognized naval architect and business leader, will be the college’s Commencement speaker. Wiernicki currently serves as the Chairman, President and CEO of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), a leader in classification and certification services for the global offshore and marine industries, and Chairman of ABS Group, a leading global provider of technical services. CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy students, officers, and crew will depart Castine on Tuesday, May 5 at approximately 1:30 PM on the Training Ship State of Maine (TSSOM) for the annual training evolution to foreign and domestic ports of call. This year’s itinerary includes stops in Charleston, South Carolina; Cadiz, Spain; Portland, Maine; Cobh, Ireland; Norfolk, Virginia; and Searsport, Maine.

Maine Maritime Academy Receives MEIF-SCI Grant to Complete Research and Development of Fuel-Efficient Lobster Boat Hull Design

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) has received a grant of $75,312 from the Maine Economic Improvement Fund Small Campus Initiative (MEIF-SCI) to complete research and development of a lobster boat hull that increases fuel efficiency. Now in its fourth year of design and scale-model trials, the multi-year collaboration between MMA and the Penobscot East Resource Center (PERC) will be focused on completing the R&D phase of a trimaran design that significantly reduces fuel use and pollution, while maintaining the large deck capacity needed for commercial lobster fishing.
