Class of 2017 Commencement Set for Saturday, May 6

CASTINE, Maine—The Class of 2017 Commencement will be held at Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday, May 6 at 11 a.m. at the Alexander Field House in Castine. Senator Susan M. Collins will be the college’s Commencement speaker. Senator Collins has served in the United States Senate since 1997 and currently ranks fifteenth in Senate seniority. She chairs the Senate Aging Committee and the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee. She also serves on the Intelligence Committee and the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees to Hold Quarterly Meeting May 5, 2017

CASTINE, Maine—The Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees will meet in committees from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5 in the Holmes Heritage Room, located at the Harold Alfond Student Center on the campus in Castine. The Board of Trustees quarterly meeting will be held from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m., also on Friday in the Holmes Heritage Room.

Regimental Awards Recognize Outstanding Students at 2017 Banquet

CASTINE, Maine—At a banquet held on Monday, March 20, the Maine Maritime Academy Regimental Awards recognized students for their strength of character, seamanship, and overall leadership on campus. This year, the entire Regiment was welcomed to the banquet, including nearly 600 students who enjoyed dinner sitting with their companies.

Free Workshop for Prospective Students of Service Academies to be Held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in Bangor

BANGOR, Maine— Maine Maritime Academy, in cooperation with Maine’s congressional delegation, will host an informational workshop for prospective students and their parents to learn about admission to Federal service academies on Wednesday, April 12 in Bangor. The workshop, offered free of charge and open to the public, will be presented at the Hilton Garden Inn, 250 Haskell Road in Bangor, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

MMA Academic Achievement Awards Honor Student Scholars and Faculty

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy’s annual Academic Achievement Awards banquet was held on Thursday evening, November 10th, to honor the scholarly accomplishments of students and the service of faculty.

Scheel Scholars
The late Henry A. Scheel of Rockport, Maine was one of America’s most respected naval architects and yacht designers. During his long and distinguished career, Mr. Scheel produced more than 250 complete designs which have been utilized by builders of sailboats and other craft in the U.S. and Europe.

Schooner Bowdoin Sails into Portland Harbor; Visit coincides with Arctic Council Meetings in Maine

PORTLAND, Maine–The schooner Bowdoin is the official vessel of the state of Maine, and the flagship of Maine Maritime Academy’s Vessel Operations and Technology Program. In recognition of the Senior Arctic Officials (SAO) Meeting of the Arctic Council in Portland, the schooner Bowdoin, an ambassador of Maine’s proud maritime heritage and Arctic history, is sailing into Portland Harbor on October 4th at 4pm and docking at the U.S. Coast Guard moorings at Wright’s Wharf in Portland. Public tours of schooner Bowdoin will take place from 5-7 pm.
