The project requires refurbishment below the water line of 18 planks identified for replacement in a marine survey conducted by GF Full and Associates.

Brennan, President of Maine Maritime Academy (MMA), has announced that a purchase and sale agreement has been signed with American Iron and Metal (AIM), owners of the former Verso paper mill in Bucksport, to acquire a six-acre parcel of land to locate the college’s new Center for Professional Mariner Development (CPMD). The agreement is expected to be finalized following a 60-day due-diligence period, after which a closing date will be determined.

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration (MARAD) will present the 10th Annual Women on the Water Conference from November 1-3 at the college in Castine. Over the three days, more than 100 maritime academy cadets from the six state maritime academies, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and six Canadian institutions will learn from industry leaders, maritime professionals, academy representatives, and their peers, and network with mariners at all career levels.
CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy’s Student Sponsor Program is seeking community volunteers to serve as host families for out-of-state students new to the college this year.
Sponsors must live within a reasonable distance from campus and are requested to attend a reception to introduce sponsors and sponsorees, and review the expectations of the program. The reception will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at the Harborview Dining Room (Alfond Student Center) on campus.
CASTINE, Maine— Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) Marine Operations Manager, Dana Willis, has announced that Taylor Martin has been hired as Sailing Coach and Sail Program Coordinator.
Taylor came to MMA from Pewaukee Lake Sailing School in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, where he ran sailing programs for children ages 5-14, an X-Boat racing program, 420 sailing, and adult sailing. He also coached and managed the city’s high school sailing program.Read More…
THROGGS NECK, New York—Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) sent two monomoy (rescue row boat) teams to SUNY Maritime Academy in Throggs Neck, New York on September 8, 2018 to compete in the George C. Previll Memorial Inaugural Inter-Academy Monomoy Challenge. Winning both parts of the challenge, Maine Maritime Academy brought in $4,000 in scholarship money; a $2,500 first place prize for the monomoy race, and $1,500 first place prize in the seamanship skills portion of the challenge.
PORTLAND, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy, in cooperation with Maine’s congressional delegation, will host an informational workshop for prospective students and their parents to learn about admission to Federal and other service academies on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 in Portland. The workshop, offered free of charge and open to the public, will be presented at the Clarion Hotel, located at 1230 Congress Street in Portland from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
