Betsy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology with a minor of Business & Logistics from Maine Maritime Academy in 2015. During her time in Castine, she was a member of the Women’s Volleyball team and was recognized as the Marine Biology program’s Scheel Scholar. In 2017, she earned her Master’s of Science in Teaching from the University of Maine, where she was named the Outstanding Master of Science in Teaching Student.
Betsy began her professional career at Hermon High School where she accepted a position as a Life and Physical Science teacher. There, she shares her love of science with her students, teaching subjects including Marine Biology, Biology, and Physics. During the summer months, Betsy also holds a position as a Marine Biology Educator for the Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems exhibit in Florida. In that role, she is able to combine her love for the ocean and teaching into one position, where she designs and implements outdoor marine science educational activities targeted at helping students understand Florida’s marine ecosystems (involving activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, exploring mangroves, etc.).
Beyond Betsy’s professional duties, she is the assistant volleyball coach for Hampden Academy. Betsy enjoys spending time with her dogs, family, and friends, hiking, running, and skiing!
